3D Character Practice - session 1

My Character

My character is called 'Norman' and he is a descendant from Mickey Mouse. He is a rather complex character with unfortunately some conformation hangups (by the way - this is not his fault!). He is very clever and excels at many sports.

Recently he tried his hand at the Mouse tennis championships "OlympiaMousey" held in Australia and he was a devious little minx. He showed a side of his character that was quite unexpected he was winning everything.

His confidence was at an all time high and his expressions were resembled to that of a python (I suppose part of this was due to his killer instinct.

The last challenge he had to face was against a rival from the other side of town and at this time he felt that if he carried on playing with the same skill he could beat him. The last thing Norman wanted to do was allow his rival to win because he would miss out on the prize which was FREE CHEESE for a whole year.

Norman is quite sensitive and does show plenty of emotion but he has permitted me to take a picture but only on his good side.

but as his confidence grows he also permits

and now I have been reminded not to forget

The day of the finals arrived and unfortunately Norman did not win.

Exercise Information

Skinning and using Wire Parameters

The example is rather crude below but it has allowed me to practise the art of skinning and dealing with the envelopes. The envelopes tend to be a bit fiddlerly but it comes good in the end.

Exercise from Joes tutorial using helpers and HI solvers
in Rigging a Foot.

Enjoyable and fun to operate

For once no problems with this phase.

The trousers were done by using a 8 sided cylinder and then using symmetry for the other side.

The shoes were done by using a box I thought I would try to resemble something like trainers!
Once again I used symmetry for the other side.

The videos below are clips taken from the Internet to show how people can portray their feelings without saying a word. This is known as body language.

The first clip explains the voice of shoulder movement and pose. The mask was used to hide the persons face so that the viewer can concentrate on the shoulders, arms and hands.

I have called this clip insecure

The second clip shows the clip of Tim Henman when he lost the final round in the Australian Championships.

Devastated

It is quite an awkward scene and made me feel quite uncomfortable whilst watching the video. Tim is devastated and is trying desperately to put on a brave face but his body language says it all.

Eyes - Cannot look at the spectators and when he does he is not actually looking.
Glancing behind at the gentleman with grey hair as a means of silenced support.

Hands - Nervously holding the microphone and the hands are facing at all times towards him almost as if he
is hiding behind them.
Placing his hands over his nose trying to hide his true emotion.

Head - Bowed down - he really does not want to be doing this speech.

Mouth - Tense

Posture - Bent over - the upstanding posture in the previous quarter-final has now disappeared.
He wants to disappear into himself.

General Disposition - Strained.

In contrast the winners speech

The winners speech shows a confident almost macho image, but I felt that some comments were unnecessary and rather hurtful for the loser. The loser really needed the ground to swallow him up. His smile to his rival but it was strained and forced and did not follow through to his eyes.

The person who introduced the winner was full of his self importance and somewhat mocking in part of his speech which was uncalled for.

The winner displayed a swagger not really dissimilar to that shown on the first video. His hands were open welcoming the spectators to join in his triumph. Eyes were wide and full of happiness. Shoulders square and posture very upright.

This is oddball some of the characteristics seemed to appear on their on. I tried to place him into a mesh but the mesh lost its arms so I obviously have not grasped it all yet, but I am forever hopeful.

The end result came from a tutorial I found, which was very useful. Hopefully something better than usual will be created after a bit more experience!

I tried to make him a rather cocksure character.
